Sending the good vibe your way for answers and help for your head. Please excuse me for asking about the obvious, but you have done the eye thing, right? Proper vision check and a double-check that your glasses (if you wear them) are the correct strength? I ask because somehow I ended up with one lens that seemed right at first, but was off just enough to slam me with incredible headaches. Took months to figure it out. ~LA

Have you considered food allergies? I was just tested in January, and lo! and behold!, I have several allergies (too complicated to go into here), but I'm in the process of eliminating certain foods (eggs, dairy, gluten grains) and feel 100% better! I wish I had known about this YEARS ago because it would have made such a difference in my life. Better late than never, tho.

Thank you, Mary and LA, for the good wishes and vibes. They are greatly appreciated. I have had my eyes checked and do wear glasses, but only for the past 8 or so years. The scary headaches precede any vision deterioration I've experienced as a result of the aging process. (Prior to entering my forties, I always had excellent eyesight.) It was a good suggestion, though, and I welcome any thoughts people might have on the subject.

Carol, you snuck your comment in there while I was responding to the messages from Mary and LA! I've never been tested for food allergies. What, exactly, does that involve, and what symptoms were you experiencing?

Stefani - 2006-03-13 10:24:42
Poor baby! I sure hope you get to the bottom of these scary headaches eventually.

hey, steph, i was going to suggest a possible gluten tie-in, too. maybe you do have allergies. they can cause a wide host of awful fierce symptoms. here's hoping you get better soon. all your misery reminds me of how i used to suffer from debilitating headaches all the time for years. i don't wish that on anybody. you are right, that is truly scary, worse than a stephen king novel. btw, keep away from the other journal site, you already have enough headaches & boy, would all that insanity going on there only add to it. it's been a mess there, worse than usual. whew. what headaches, lol.

Thanks, Stefani. I was hoping for some "there, there's," and you guys have once again come through for me. Debbie - how did you get relief from your headaches? As for that other journal site, I know what you mean! Things are exploding all over the place. Talk about scary!

You have two Carol's here. I hope the headaches can be solved without too much testing. Nothing worse than a headache that won't go away. I am sorry you feel so bad.

I don't get headaches so can't speak from personal experience, however, I transcribe neurology office visits for doctors and that is one of the most common maladies. Of course, they always prescribe lots of drugs, but some things they insist on is that the patient give up all caffeine, all chocolate, and a lot of times dairy foods. Those three things seem to be common triggers for migraines. Caffeine being the #1 offender. Good luck in finding some solution... a new PCP might be in order for you down the road too...someone who cares!

I sometimes wake up with headaches that go away after some combination of water, strong black coffee, aspirin, Vicks nasal spray. Once in a while none of those work and I end up with an all day headache. Those are very painful, very bad. Sometimes I get a headache that lasts for two or even three days. Those, thankgod, are rare, but I cringe at the thought. I cannot begin to imagine what you are going through with your headaches. If I had a magic wand... Hope it goes away very soon.

Sorry; didn't realize there are two Carols (I don't often read the responses) ... I'll be Carol51. I actually had "no" symptoms that I knew of. GP referred me to ENT (who is also an allergist) because I was concerned about my voice getting hoarse and breaking for no apparent reason. Discovered I have a lesion on my vocal chords and erosions in the esophagus. Anyway, ENT thinks that may be caused by food allergies (GERD), so we did a blood test, and yep, I have Class 6 (the worst) IgG antibodies to dairy and eggs, Class 3 IgG antibodies to wheat, and Class 1 IgG antibodies to soy, corn, and candida. IgG antibodies are antibodies that apparently don't cause any immediate problems; they go into your system and can last forever, causing nutritional absorption problems, fatigue, aches and pains, etc. etc. and can do long-term organ damage. You probably don't even know you have them because they don't cause immediate reactions, like stomach or intestinal upset, hives/rash, even anaphylactic shock, etc. (IgE antibodies). It's only after the fact, after you've removed the offending foods from your diet for awhile (several months) that you notice HEY, I don't have "X" anymore! At some point you may be able to re-introduce the allergens on a limited basis; not sure about that tho. Even tho I was "diagnosed" in January, it took awhile to get into the new diet, so DH and I have only been "clean" about a month now. His doctor wanted him to go off gluten to see if it was causing a problem for him (totally unrelated to me!), so that's why I'm off all gluten grains, even tho I only showed allergy to wheat. Candida is another one to seriously consider. Candida (yeast overgrowth) can be a major major problem. Celiac disease, which is a much more serious gluten sensitivity, is also very major. Celiac disease can be life-threatening. I would post some links, but if I leave this to go get the links, I lose my message for some reason (I tried). You can email me if you'd like. I'm a "believer" now, and think everyone should be tested for food allergies! My insurance paid for it :-)

Perhaps it might be spinal Stephanie ? Hope the doctors find out what causes it and that there is some way to alleviate your pain.

There, there. I have no advice for you, I'm afraid, because I've never had anything that severe or long lasting. You do very well to function as well as you do while this is going on. I can only hope somehow some doctor can figure out what it is and what to do.

Thanks, everyone. I love you guys. You really are the best.

I was thinking what Doug brought up -- that it might really be your neck/upper back causing the headache. I had a spazzing spine for a few days recently, and a headache went with it. But really, make that stupid doctor do his job! I figured out why I was in pain-- I forgot to take my anti-inflammatory since Saturday (I figured it out Wednesday) -- what a difference! I guess the diclofenac does work.
