Steph, Regarding the Bishop's weed - here are some testimonials about this plant, read all down thru them, some are positive and some (most) are negative. But this is very informative. http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/546/ There was one entry where she said the only way to kill it was to dig up right down to under the roots in clumps, and to lie the lumps out on the driveway, root side up, for the summer so they will dry out and die. Otherwise, I didn't see much success in getting rid of it from most folks. I guess Roundup is a good product to try, though. As for hot fashes - been there/done that. In my 40's I began having them, and they took over my life. I am lucky I went thru menopause early, and now it is well behind me. But I also know some women who sailed thru with no problems, not me! Nothing in life is easy for me, and this was certainly no exception.

Occasionally I get daytime hot flashes intense enough to need to change shirts and towel my hair afterward. Maybe 4-5 times a year. But night sweats? Honey, I don't remember what a dry bed feels like. Since my late 30's I've been par-boiling EVERY NIGHT. I do the open windows in winter and a/c set at frozen in the summer. Ideally my bedroom should be cold enough to see my breath. I might make it through the night without drenching, gasping or feeling smothered. My only hope is since this nonsense started so early, maybe I'll be done with 'the change' early too. All done with periods and PMS by 46 or so? Yeah, baby. ~LA

I've yet to have a real hot flash but, as I like to say, I'm just on simmer most of the time. Admittedly, being overweight doesn't help. It's like once my thermostate gets yanked up, it's hard to get it down. The t-shirt I sleep in is wet around the neck every morning. The Remifemin that Mary/Bozoette recommended does work to a good degree. Sooo - so far, I'm right in the middle, some symptoms, but they aren't tooo bad.

Yup, that one you referred to was the worst! The night sweats are largely gone and the flashes are rare nowadays, but I attribute that to the HRT. Yay, drugs!

I have yet to have night sweats or hot flashes, but I have heard horror stories about them. I always freezing, so I'll probably welcome them! That Bee Gee song is going to be running through my head for the rest of the evening!

Can't remember exactly hot flash duration etc. Just know I was the only one fanning myself in choir. :-) Also know my thermostat broke and heat bothers me even more. And I live in TX!

i had a hysterectomy and ovaries both removed at age 34 so was thrown immediately into surgical menopause. because i have a blood clotting disease, i can't take hormones. hot flashes were so strange! started in the middle of my body and then just flared outwards.....i'd just radiate heat....and for someone who is usually always cold, it was odd. and ugh, the night sweats...i'd wake up, drenched...hubby would be like "ewww, you gotta change!"...lol. but now i'm 41 and they seem to be behind me mostly. every once in awhile i'll have a hot zapper but nothing like it used to be!...~zen

One more thing, when I was going thru the 10 years of hotflashes (yes, 10 years!) I read up a lot on it. I found a product that helped a bit but the main ingredient was MAGNESIUM. Then I read more and it turns out that the decrease in magnesium in the body is a big reason for the hot flashes. I started taking a pill that contains CALCIUM - MAGNESIUM - ZINC ever since then, and that helped a lot. Also, the magnesium does wonders for the "constitution" and the zinc wards off colds miraculously. And we all know how much we old geezers need our calcium as we age!

~V~ :) eyes i don't know as soon as i read your entry i looked this plant/weed up and everyone says (plant this beast in a place that it can be contaned) :(... nothing on what really to do if it has been running wild like a bunch of collage kids on spring break :).. try round up, or rid way ?.... the only two names that keep poping up.... :) ~V~ * Aegopodium podagraria -- better known as gout or bishops weed. It is also called Queen Anne's Lace although this name is often reserved for another member of the carrot family. There are two forms of this ground cover plant, one plain green and the other variegated.
