I agree with you on the Harry Potter outcome, and I've heard the rumor that Harry that dies, which I think is jsut cruel and unecessary. I can think of mnay other outcomes for him. We've all read them here with my younger son having read through them 3 times now while waiting for the next installment. I too started reading to my boys as soon as they were able to focus on the book, meaning in infancy. One is an avid reader and always has a book or two going. The other reads only technical things for his carrere/interests now and I don't know why, but no literature. He stopped in HS the reading for pleasure although he did read for his Humanities class and said he enjoyed those selections, he just never did it on his own again. These days I am more apt to read a collection of short stories or new , to me, authors of books I buy at the libary book sales since I have a hard time with the library deadlines. Sometimes I read straight through and other times it takes me more than the 3 weeks and I don't like the impending deadlines so I pick up my books from the boxes otuside and pay the donation. Eventually I take thme back to the library and put them back in the boxes and they can resell them or I donate them to one of the many charity thrift stores. I don't look for happy endings necessarily , but enjoy books about women or who struggle and overcome some odds along the way.

Good food for thought here. I can't imagine JKR will kill off Harry. I'm thinking Snape may die in some dubiously heroic way, and maybe Remus Lupin, or Hagrid, but I seriously doubt she'll kill off any of her 3 main characters. My prediction is also that Draco's mother's love for him will somehow redeem/save him from a life of evildoing. The saving powerful magic of a mother's love is an ongoing theme in the storylines. I run hot and cold about John Irving and Stephen King, both. I am slooowly working through the Gunslinger books, enjoying them lots, and like some of Irving's work. I'm currently all enchanted by Diana Gabaldon's "Outlander" books.

I see that you like several of the books that I do and author Stephen King. I have read some of Barbara Cartland's but it's been many years. I'm into Robert Jordan and his series at the moment. A great entry though.

My problem is your last thought... so many books... so little time... I just hope I can still see and move a little by the time I retire, so I can get more of my books read. I have a virtual library in this house of unread books that I can't wait to dip into... when I have the time!

I love to read and I am sad that I have allowed myself to get away from reading. I am working on getting back into reading by starting with Book 2 of the HP series.
