At least when they are named Princess, you know how to spell it, maybe. What drives me crazy is this: I take reservations for our company, a limo service, these days I have to ask for spellings on even the simplest of names, and usually, the last names are the easy ones. Like Chris can now be Kris or Cris. Kathy is Kathie, Cathy, Cathey,Cathie etc. And, as you know, it is not simply Stephanie anymore, it's Stephany, Stefani, Stefany. My guess is that as the number of people on the planet burgeons out of control our need to be "different" goes with it.

My old classmate looked at me as if I had lost my mind, and said, "But, that's YOU!" Not any more. That torch has been passed. THAT is CLASSIC! "The torch has been passed." Love the way you phrased that bit!

Channel 10 in Providence has a feature on their early morning news -- "First Birthday" -- where they read the names (sent in by viewers) of kids who are celebrating their 1st birthday that day. It is fascinating to notice the different names each day (and some of them are truly different!)

I have a sister Patricia and brother Michael, both born in the 50's. ;-) I don't know why some parents hang real weird first names on kids.

Wouldn't you think naming a child "Omnipotent" make the terrible twos and the teen years ever so much worse? Of course he (I'm assuming it's a boy) might have awesome disease resistance. Not to mention no problems with erectile dysfunction.

And what do they call him for short, Omni?, like the hotel? Potent? Pot, pronounced poat, or not?

They call him "jailbird." He's a murderer. :-/

I always hated my name growing up because no one else had it. I SWORE I'd never do that to a kid. But...I did it any way, I gave my daughter a nice normal name, that no one else has Marianne. Of course, she hates her name. I grew to appreciate and like my unusual name, and hopefully she will also.

Your Majesty. Gah. I don't even know what to say about that one, but if someone wants to give their child an inflated sense of self-importance.... Heh.

Okay, I am totally guilt-free about Wolf now. ~LA

Really, Wolf does seem rather tame now. How about that Fox News reporter, Major something. Can you imagine calling your little 6 year old Major? Now, Your majesty could be said around here, but only in total sarcastic jest when the almost 14 yr old is asking me to get him something so he doesn't have to get up and get it himself.

And then there's Trump's latest scion, Baron. Oy. I wish I'd had a less common name when I was in school; there were so many Lisas in one class that the teacher resorted to numbering us Lisa 1, Lisa 2, etc. I felt like a robot!
