I've been with diaryland since 2000 and never have had a problem with spam. Ever. I've also never had a problem that I needed help from Andrew, so I can't help you out there. But I can tell you that the Bailey's chocolates I got today are flavored with the irish cream. I got them at Target. I opened the package today and think I got totally ripped off. $9 for 12 plastic wrapped "truffles". They better taste good!

I don't have any experience as a member with diaryland, but I remember when I was trying to unsub from a particular notify list and I would never receive the email to finish the unsub. I tried repeatedly and also tried emailing diaryland for help repeatedly and never got a response. It was weird. Anyway, now I'm craving pizza. :|

Wow, I never saw those comments before, I guess you erased them before I saw them. What a bummer. I know nothing about anti-spamming methods, but I know some sites who have those little boxes you have to type in what you see and then it allows your post to get added. I have no idea how it works or how you install such a thing though. I know Julia's site uses that, do you know her? Julia "Here be Hippogriffs" from Mn? She's on typepad though.

Yes, I have had MAJOR problems with spam, but not in my "comments" but in my guestbook which I finally took off my site altogether. I wrote to Andrew countless times and NEVER HEARD BACK FROM HIM ONCE! and I also am a gold member. I even stopped receiving email notifications of entries in my guestbook after having to go in there every day to delete the spam. Now I just don't even check. I don't know what is wrong with Andrew but he's not as advertised!

I used to have a diaryland acct. I never got any response. Perhaps you should just not use this comment set up and go to halo scan.

I've never been on D-land, but I did use Andrew's SignMyGuestbook program. Like Bex, it overflowed with spam. To make matters worse, I had terrible problems signing in so that I could delete the spam! I finally just took the link off my blog, but STILL got spam g-book entries.

Huh. It says that it's going to be cancelled in five days due to e-mail and comment spam. We'll see. Of course I was going to click it. Silly me, I do that with the more outrageous spammers. Shemale, indeed!

Andrew has never "returned my calls". I no longer am notified by email when a comment is left for me. I sent him an email - no answer. Also, LA has passworded her blog - please let her know we miss her and hope she's OK.

Several times when I have attempted to leave comments at Doug's site I have had diaryland accuse me of being a spammer (in a very insulting tone that insists I absolutely am a spammer and it has caught me in the act) and yet other times it lets me post with no problem. I think it only did that to me once on your site. I would say that I've not had spam problems with haloscan, but I'm afraid I'd jinx myself and find 500 spam comments there tomorrow morning. I sure get tons of it in all of my e-mail accounts -- either that or I've won three big multimillion dollar European lotteries just this week, plus there are some interesting offers from some African banks, not to mention all of those wild women who want to chat with me as soon as I get the Canadian prescriptions to enhance my masculine attributes and drive women wild.

Ugh, I HATE spam comments and having to delete them. I had that problem back when I used MT on another site. I've heard Haloscan is good, but I don't know whether it's hard to set up. Probably not. Still, it's not right that as a paying member, you're not getting the service you should.

I am a supergold memeber and never heard back from Andrew when I emailed him about the spam hitting my comments section. For me, it was one entry and spam over and over again. I deleted the entry and was still getting spam on it. I donno if Andrew did something in the background but it doesn't happen anymore.
