The thing about John Mayer is, if you can get past that bubblegum tongue'd Body is a Wonderland and his thing with Jessica Simpson? The boy can write lyrics and play guitar like nobody's business! Really!! And it would be so funny to see him in a room with Mr. E from The Eels.

I like Valentine's Day Ok, but it never likes me. It is rather comercial but I don't think you have to go that route to show love.

I must be doing something right (though what, I don't know), because today when I gave my hubby his Valentine's Day card (which I always do), he went and got his for ME, and told me that he'd bought it several days ago! Which is very unusual. He usually forgets, and then has to run to the store for the card later in the day, and to me, it's just not the same as being all prepared ahead of time. So Valentine's Day has always been met with mixed feelings. He isn't sentimental, but I know he loves me all the same, every other day of the year, as well. And that's what counts in my book. I loved your entry today, Steph. Happy Valentine's Day to you!

Go YOU! and your freedom to wear and support RED! We too give token gifts of candy and flowers. I would not want anything expensive because that is not the purpose, and I think taking a day to celebrate love and romance is just fine. If you don't care to participate, don't, that's OK too, unlike Saudi Arabia we are not obligated one way or the other. No Valentine's police will be at your door. Today we followed our usual Valentines Day routine. I put out candy and cards when I got up. Hubby was already out working but came home at breakfast bearing a modest bouquet of cut flowers a card and a box of Valentines Petit Fours. I had found 4 yummy types of Hershey's kisses and put them in a cute little heart shaped basket wrapped up in red cellophane and a ribbon. All just little tokens of love. Sadly Hubby is hugely contagiously sick with a cold and we have tried not to be close enough to kiss for a few days.

Another freedom we don't realize we have. I continue to send our kids cards even though our daughter and an ex choose to marry on the courthouse steps with 100 other people, so the day may bring back those memories she'd rather forget.

Hmmm. I never actually thought about it that way--just about the blatant commercialism and the fact that I'm pissed that I should crow about my love today, but go back to my selfish, non-love-mentioning self for the other 364 days. Then again, I feel the same way about Christmas, Thanksgiving, 4th of July..... However, I must say, have a happy Valentine's Day and eat a slice of pizza for me!

Regarding your comment: us hourly workers don't get paid when there are vacations/snow days, etc., so instead of being happy when classes are cancelled (for the most part), I'm rather ticked because it wasn't really that bad, and I've gone to work in far worse weather.

Said my piece in my entry of today, We pretty much agree, I think. As far as commercialism is concerned, our merchants have pretty well figured out how to make a buck due to most any holiday. And have, I think, inspired or made up a few of their own that none of us really realized until prodded by them. Love is from the heart, requires no money be spent, but a life be devoted to it.

It's so good to live where we can go all red or ignore the day completely. Happy Valentine's Day!

I don't know what you got but we only got 5 out of the predicted 16-20. In my book that is a dud. Should I cross the river to find more? BTW wonderful V-day entry.

Wow. Reading about those frightening restrictions in Saudi Arabia makes me appreciate where I live even more. Hope you had a wonderful Valentine's Day! And "My Funny Valentine" is one of my favorite songs. I have sap tendencies, too. :)
