When the overwhelming sadness of your loss is fresh, it's hard to find any reason to smile. But when time has healed the wound a little bit, and you begin dancing with good memories, and can smile a bit, you know you are healing, and that must make your loved one happy from his "side" of life - to know that the good memories are outweighing the sadness now. How is your back/headache problem progressing?

Even though it was painful, it sounds like it was a healing service.

Honor your grief and honor your tears. They are the things that will wash away the loss so you can see your memories with the joy they deserve. The memorial service sounds beautiful. I intend to plant a "Grandma garden" in honor of my mother. The intent was there last spring but I wasn't ready. This year I hope to put it together. {{hug}}

I think we grieve the way we love. As passion deepens into something that's less intense but easier to sustain, maybe the overwhelming initial sadness helps us get to the place we eventually need to be to live with the loss. It's not smooth, though, is it? It happens in fits and starts.

I agree with Michael--despite what loved ones often tell us (Oh, don't cry over me; don't grieve too much, etc.,) it's impossible. We know our loved ones wouldn't want us to feel this way, and we more than likely have said the same thing to others in respect to our own deaths. It never turns out as simple as we want.

It is easy to tell some one else how to heal their own grief, but it is only when we are coping with our own that the realization that everyone deals with in their own way and own time. Thinking of you Milady and hoping for the best.
